EP197: Awareness or Lack Thereof

Awareness is the skill of managing our thoughts, feelings, and actions. Many of our poor food choices come from lack of awareness. When we feel cravings, anger, or overwhelm, and we have a habit of reaching for a donut, burgers, or the candy dish, we frequently are unaware that this feeling is the source. More than this, we are unaware of the thoughts that lead to these feelings. Instead, we pour our mental resources into changing our environment (avoiding the donuts, burgers, or candies) to avoid the habit of reaching for the food. This is never going to be a long-term fix. You are not investing in fixing the actual problem. The problem is not in the environment, the problem is in the thoughts and feelings that drive you to the action of eating foods that make you sick. Awareness is a tool to change this. This episode dives into this. Check it out!
